We get asked a lot of questions about Sunny, usually by people sitting in a beer garden wondering why the sun disappeared behind the building next door. So here are the answers in one place: what Sunny is, how it works, and what’s coming soon.

What is Sunny?

Sunny is a free, live map of pubs, beer gardens and rooftops in the sun right now. Open it wherever you are and it shows you nearby places with outdoor seating, so you can head straight for the sunshine instead of guessing.

How do I use Sunny?

It takes three steps:

  1. Open the map. Go to visit.sunnypubs.app in your browser. You’ll see pubs and beer gardens with outdoor seating near you, along with the local weather for the afternoon.
  2. Pick a sunny spot. Tap any pin to see more about the venue, including photos and opening hours.
  3. Go and enjoy it. Get directions to walk, drive or take public transport, or book an Uber, and you’re there.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Sunny works in your web browser on your phone or computer, with no app to install and no sign-up needed. Native iOS and Android apps are on the way.

Is Sunny free?

Yes. Sunny is free to use, and the map is staying that way.

Where does Sunny work?

Everywhere. Sunny works worldwide, wherever there’s a venue with outdoor seating and a bit of sky overhead. There are no regions or waitlists.

What kinds of places does Sunny show?

Pubs, beer gardens, rooftop bars, sports clubs and casual restaurants. Basically anywhere serving a drink with proper outdoor seating.

Do venues pay to be on Sunny?

No. A venue is either shown on the map or it isn’t, and no venue can pay to be on it or to stand out. Venues can claim their listing to keep their photos and opening hours up to date, but that’s all.

What’s coming soon?

We’re always working on new ways to get you into the sun. Here’s what’s on the way:

  • Real-time sunny spots. We’re working on making it even easier to pinpoint the sunny spots around you in real time, because one corner of a beer garden can be in full sun while another sits in the shade of a building, tree or umbrella. In the meantime, our guide on which beer gardens get the most sun explains how orientation and shadows work.
  • Native apps. Sunny works in your browser today, and apps for iOS and Android are on the way.

Does Sunny use my location?

Only if you let it. With your permission, Sunny uses your approximate location to show venues near you. You can read exactly what we collect and why in our privacy policy.

I run a pub. How do I get it on Sunny?

If your venue has outdoor seating, there’s a good chance it’s already on the map. To claim your listing and update your photos and opening hours, get in touch.

Summing up

Sunny does one thing and tries to do it well: it helps you find pubs and beer gardens in the sun right now, anywhere in the world, for free, with no paid placements. Open the map and see what’s sunny near you.
